About our Network

The location of our Network

The length of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov coast of Ukraine is about 2500 km. In Ukraine a number of research institutes (the leaders are the Marine Hydrophysical Institute (MHI), the Institute of Biology of Southern Seas (IBSS), the Institute of Geological  Sciences (IGS), the Ukrainian Scientific Center of the Ecology of Sea (UkrSCES), Southern Scientific Research Institute of Marine Fisheries and Oceanography (SSRIMFO), etc.), companies, NGO’s and municipal administrations are involved or have responsibilities for coastal and marine management and research.

However the links existing at present between and within the communities of coastal science, policy and practice are weak and suffer from fragmentation. Creation of the Ukrainian Network for Coastal Research (UKRNCORA) will contribute to improvement of the policy preparation and decision making of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

Ukraine will create opportunities to introduce experience with coastal policies and practices of the ENCORA network. Dissemination and exchange of information, knowledge, experience and research results regarding coastal zones will contribute to harmonization of coastal policies and management practices around the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.
