UKRNCORA
is a central Ukraine resource for coastal  research.

The main objective of ENCORA is to create mechanisms to establish contacts among coastal scientists, policymakers and practitioners for sharing knowledge and experience on common problems, on the request of colleagues from other European countries. These contacts may develop into partnerships, to tackle together common issues. For this, Coordination Offices have been established in 13 European countries.

Inspired by the ENCORA approach, organizations from the third countries Algeria, Ukraine and Russian Federation are in the phase of raising national coastal networks and are ready to join the ENCORA initiative. They are willing to exchange and bring in their intellectual property on voluntary basis.

It is proposed to extend and strengthen the existing ENCORA network with the 2 National Coastal Networks in Ukraine (Black Sea-NIS country) and the Russian Federation (Russian Federation Black Sea, Baltic Sea and Caspian Sea) and a Regional Coastal Network in the African Mediterranean countries led by Algeria (including organizations from Morocco and Tunisia) – ENCORA-TTC.
The chosen countries can be considered as representative non-EU member states for the concerning regional Seas.
The reasons to include these 3 ENCORA-TTC National Networks are:

  • Opening up of ICZM knowledge, expertise and experience within these countries for Europe and visa versa, because European countries are sharing the same regional seas (Mediterranean, Baltic and Black Sea). Exchange of knowledge and management practices will be a first step to harmonising regional ICZM policy and management approaches around these regional seas. ENCORA will hereto provide an appropriate infrastructure.
  • Enriching the expertise available in ENCORA with experiences from countries with different social, economic and managerial circumstances. These third countries have a different vision and organization regarding ICZM problems; Europe and the ENCORA-TTC countries can therefore learn from the great diversity of approaches existing in the different countries.

The objectives for the ENCORA-TTC Coordination Action are:

  • To initiate a self-sustaining process of cooperation in Algeria (North African Mediterranean including Morocco and Tunisia), Ukraine (NIS Black Sea) and the Russian Federation (Russian Federation Black Sea, Caspian Sea and Baltic Sea), with new mechanisms for knowledge-sharing within and between communities of coastal sciences and coastal practice
  • To strengthen national coordination mechanisms within all the countries
  • To organize, implement and establish a national ICZM network, as well as to integrate the national ICZM networks of these countries within the existing ENCORA network to realize exchange and transfer of know how, expertise and experience
  • To stimulate multidisciplinary approaches and to strengthen transnational communication between scientists, practitioners and policymakers in all the countries.

The UkrNCORA web-site should become the main focus and the key resource of the Network. This web-site is supposed to contain the following sections when they become available:

  • News of Network workshop meetings, events, conferences.
  • News of invitations for research applications and relevant announcements from other organisations.
  • Details of UKRNCORA's email lists
  • A directory of members and their area of expertise.
  • A list of current research projects and new awards
  • A list of research posts available
  • Links to other related networks, to industrial contacts, government organisations, NGO's, journals, etc.
  • Details of how to join and a membership application page.
