Godin graduated from Simferopol State University, Department of Geography in 1978. Since 1978 he has been working in Marine Hydrophysical Institute as a Researcher. He specializes in regional oceanography of the Black Sea, its climatic and long-term variability, and database management.The results of his works are presented in more than 60 scientific papers and proceeding of international conferences.
