The main research work
takes place in the sphere of fishing oceanology and ecology of the Black and Azov Seas as well as in the Indian Ocean.
While working at the institute, taking part in the program implementation for the collection and processing of the natural measurement data,
participated in 5 cruises to the Indian Ocean and numerous expeditions to the Black and Azov Seas as the group supervisor,
expedition leader aboard the research vessels of the fishing fleet.
The results of his research works became the basis of the prognostication as to the fishery efficiency of some commercially efficiency species of the Black and Azov Seas and the Southern Ocean.
The ecological research of commercial fish made it possible for B. Panov get to the study of mechanisms of the marine ecosystems functioning,
research the role of circulation, vertical water structure, currents vorticity on the state of marine ecosystems,
develop the forecasting methodology of the near-bottom hypoxy in the Azov Sea, lay down a set of conceptions of the marine ecosystems transformation and creation of the complex information and prognostication support of fisheries.
The research interests
studies on possibility of the mariculture development in the Black Sea.
Besides, he developed recommendations as to location the mussel plantations in the Kerch Strait,
defined the most prospective areas for marine fisheries near the Caucasian and Crimean coasts,
worked out methodical recommendations as to the maintainance of the optimal conditions for the grey mullet larvae containment in the closed re-circulation systems.
